So what's new in the great big, ever-expanding world of the Vermont Ukulele Society? Quite a bit! For starters, it's nice to have Barry back after playing with the Vergennes City Band over the summer. Jen reported that we've been invited to play at the Bristol Harvest Festival on Sept. 26 in the afternoon. (She's double checking the date & time.) We'll have an extra practice on Mon. Sept 21st to rehearse the music for that performance. Jim reported that Lil Rev is definitely coming to Middlebury on Nov. 8th for an afternoon workshop & concert. Jim is also looking for input on next year's Vermont Ukulele Festival. Fran was excited about the positive response to ukes in the Orwell Library, and plans to expand the program in the future. Dennis suggested that we think about putting a few more of our songs on YouTube for new folks to practice along with. Great idea! Finally, a word about our new digs. Thanks to Ken for getting us set up in Howden Hall in Bristol! Plenty of room to grow, ample parking, a wall for projecting lyrics, and best of all... natural reverb!
Some of the songs we did this evening: Walking After Midnight, What a Wonderful World, When I'm 64, Pfft! You Were Gone, Over the Rainbow, By the Silvery Moon, and Love Potion #9. (Note: You can download these songs here.)
Deanna had some song requests for future VUS nights, which I will post shortly. In the meantime, you can hear some versions on YouTube: Avalon, Moonglow, Bungalow for Two, and Tonight You Belong to Me.
Finally: A reminder to everyone to check the website for all of the latest news & songlists for upcoming meetings!
